PURPLE HEART COMMUNITY
The Village-of-Castleton is a purple heart community, new signs have been installed at the village limits. “The Purple Heart medal is presented to service members who have been wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving in the U.S. military. Peter Andrews Castleton Memorial VFW Post 7337 active members Edward Carney and Jerry Robinson are recipients of the Purple Heart.” – Castletonian, Spring 2020. August 7th is recognized as Purple Heart Day nationally and within the village.
NY FORWARD
We have been working hard in assisting the village to apply for the first round of the NY Forward Program which is a scaled down version of the highly beneficial Downtown Revitalization Initiative. We are excited, if awarded either $2.25 or $4.5 million could be used towards transformative projects to reinvigorate our Village’s downtown area.
If you have ideas for projects please contact us or the Village Board.
The application has to be submitted to the Capital District Regional Economic Development Council by September, 23 2022.

Castleton struggles to get access to its waterfront park – for 28 years
Castleton is in the news! COHMSA’s public meeting on safe access to Riverfront Park last Friday was very successful. Featuring dynamic expert speakers and videos, the nearly 80 attendees (including those online) engaged in an interactive question and answer period that was educational and inspirational. A reporter from the Times Union took interest in the story, for which we are grateful. Please enjoy, don’t hesitate to ask questions, and join us for our next event. THE POKE JAR – NOW OPEN
We have all been anxiously looking forward to some wonderful new eats from the Poke Jar. The Poke Jar opened on Main Street March 15, congratulations to the owner on the new location and a warm welcome to the village from COHMSA. The dine-in and takeout restaurant offers a wide menu of sushi, street tacos, and ramen. The food looks fantastic and we can’t wait to try it ourselves. From what we have heard it is off to a wonderful start and we wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
